Rethinking Employee Engagement

The Internet of things has proliferated the collection and analysis of hard data to enable better business decisions and improve operational efficiency. Genderless Leadership: Creating Balanced Leaders in Your Organization  

The traditional view of gender in leadership leaves women believing they need to be more like a man in order to be successful and men feeling blamed and excluded. However, there are better ways to think about leadership.  The focus should be on ways to develop leadership skills that transcend gender. While gender gaps do exist, it is important to move beyond knowing that we need to act differently to actually having the roadmap for what to do and how to do it. 

We have found through experience and primary research with over 1,000 people that there are not only masculine and feminine expressions of leadership competencies, but that depending on one’s gender, we have different expectations and interpretation of effective leadership. Thus, a one-size fits all approach to leadership development is not the best solution and way to move beyond the gender conversation in leadership. Rather, we have to teach both men and women even more situational skills depending on what each team member needs. We need to teach men and women to be more balanced leaders who are capable of expressing both the masculine and feminine expressions of leadership competencies depending on what is needed.
